The diagonal approach: A theoretic framework for the economic evaluation of vertical and horizontal interventions in healthcare
The diagonal approach is the key paper from my PhD thesis. The concept for the paper arose from my time working for the Alberta Ministry of Health, where I was consistently asked to evaluate large-scale health system interventions with very broad impacts, such as the construction of a new hospital, or programs like public health surveillance. I found that there was very little guidance and no cohesive theoretical framework to inform economic evaluation of such interventions. This work aims to address that gap.
